Within the tortuous labyrinth
Followed the ball of twine
Slew the dreadful monster
Beloved hero of mine.
Long miles 'tween Crete and Greece
The ship silently flew
And in joyful haste
Black flag forgot to renew.
From the only home I knew
In rapid haste depart
Not wanting to leave alone
Took sister, rival of my heart!
For whom I had risked my all
With Bacchus did not debate
Took all else with him
Abandoned me to my Fate.
Later my broken heart
Sorrow'd and grieved no more
Am grateful to thee stranger
Found on that rocky shore.
Found Solace in thy grave depths
Heady, Oh God of Wine
And forgot fair faithless
Leaving me for mine.
Broken hearted: in spirit whole
Was loved forever and true
But you cruel deserter
Conjugal happiness never knew.
