I sat there for rest; weary
Exhausted by this path of stone
The climb up ahead looking dreary
Such a long way to travel alone.
Found the solace that I sought, at last
When another paused to rest a while
Let him lead on the path he wrought
His companionship lightened the miles
Yet the peak still called to me
For the solitary climb, I pine
Matters not how rich this valley
It is his destination, not mine.
Through tortuous ways of ice and stone
To reach my pinnacle I must go alone.
