Another Postcard from Arlington©

A rain-washed Sunday spelled blessed relief.
Relief from a more than regular 100+ on the thermometer forever it seemed. But relief only while the rain lasts.

It was so reminiscent of the monsoon back in Naini Tal- see I am terribly small town- everything in my life has to be based on the Naini Tal-ian frame of reference( even Austin, TX was important because it was founded in 1839- same year as Naini Tal was).

But of course Arlington is Naini Tal-like. Not the heat- but the summer vegetation. The Pines. Waving their majestic tops in the wind. The cones and the Smells- reminds me- now is the time to go pine-cone collecting- now before the squirrels have taken the best away leaving only a few puny ones scattered here and there. And in winter- the all two one day of a temperature plunging below 35- which they call winter in Texas- that cold is rather like the Naini cold.

But back to the rain. Rain beating on glass is so soothing, so restful- so evocative of a strange melancholy that makes you want to write lyrical verse and stare into the distance longing for a loved one- then remembering that you do love one- but then one can long for the beloved who is not there....

Only that the relief is only while the rain lasts. The minute it stops a strange weary heat creeps back in- bringing with it that bugaboo humidity. irritating, cloyingly persistent.

Not to worry though, the rain is back again. On and on it will go , pausing in fits as if to replenish its stock, and then proceed.

Rain in the morning is not that pleasant. Now I miss the sun.

Just one day of a monsoon? And I thought I longed for the months of torrential downpour.
Maybe eternal sunshine and a blazing blue sky are more addictive than I ever knew.
