We kissed
On an evening
In early summer
Kissed and sighed
And Kissed some more
Lips seeking
And seeking more
Even as our hands entwined
Our bodies trembled
Wrapped
In an embrace
Rudely torn away
By a shrilly ringing phone
Reality interfering
And giving perspective
Your laugh shattered the magic
It was easy to say
"Its not you, its me"
But, it was you
Only you
And the desires of the body
Are not based on rational thought
(so even the wise make stupid mistakes)
We kissed again in the car
I marveled at how
Someone I had so much contempt for
Could make me so passionate
And I mused on how the
Body betrays
The mind which is trying to take care
Little thinking that the mind
Was on its way to make mistakes
Worse ones than merely obeying the body could have.
You held me, we kissed more
And blessed be strange cities
And weird landladies
Neither stayed the night
Nor did anything we could regret
Middle class morality imbued regret
Or talk the M word
Or that dirty four letter word
Love.
Dirty because it would have been sullied
Had I not vanished off
And not even bothered to phone.
"Dear John" letters
Are a necessity at times.
