Why i am silently hating the Gere-Shetty kiss

Shilpa Shetty should be so sorry. Because Richard Gere kissed her. I mean that is just too much. Too darn much. And the ensuing ruckus that followed ensures that he will not kiss any other woman in India again. Or maybe no other Indian woman either. There go my chances.

On a more serious note I wonder what it reminds me of yet again. How it was exceedingly difficult in India to meet a person of the opposite sex for a tete a tete much less a romantic rendezvous. Because everything was so straitlaced. I grew up in a culture that did not admit that babies were conceived( yes I got my sex-ed , but my folks were horribly liberal even discussing “Lady Chatterley’s lover” with me with the idea” If she talks about it, she can understand it, if she cannot, she will ask”) A culture where “Men have bleep bleep, women a bleep bleep” was rattled through in a monotone by a very visibly embarrassed biology teacher in Class 9. A culture where admitting I used products geared for feminine hygeine was more taboo than admitting to a charge of manslaughter(all this is outside home…) A culture where as a working Assistant Manager my landlords trusted me enough to cheat me out of a cool 5k every month, but not “entertain a man” in the same suite.

It is endless. And now that I get ready to go back to India to get married, I shudder at the incident even more. Because we just might want to go out together, and maybe hold hands and maybe you know just hug each other… but in our homeland that is an obscenity you know…. The spontaneous expression of one’s feelings. Of course it will not make a difference if we scream or yell at each other in public. That is decent.
